  1. The common ethical issues in group counseling is a commitment of the members. A leader must recognize that members will be assigned to attend the group in group counseling, rather than on a voluntary attendance. Ethically, the leaders should not address who assigned the members to the group but should provide the individuals with every opportunity to participate in group activities.Forcing should not be used because it would again be deemed unethical to compel an person to share information or engage in actions against the rights of the individual, but giving them the opportunity to share on their terms or at their pace (Corey, Williams & Moline, 1995). This is the ethical and moral approach to acquiring an individual's trust as well as upholding the individual's rights. This shows all members the commitment the leader has for the community and the desire for success for all members of the group as a whole.

  2. Common ethical issues that always occur in group counseling are confidentiality issues. Usually when we are in the group, it is quite challenging and harder for group member to keep the stories or maintain the issues itself within the group. Unlike individual session, they tend to keep talking or discussed about it even when the session ended or when they are already outside the session. In order to handle this issue, counselor should emphasize to inform all the group members about the need for confidentiality, potential consequences of breaching confidentiality and that legal privilege does not apply to group discussions. Other way to do is to make all the group members accept wholeheartedly regarding confidentiality issues rather than just being a rule that counselor has set up for them.

  3. Common ethical issues in group counselling is Informed consent. It is extremely important when participation is mandatory. Informed consent is something that all psychologist, counselor, and therapist have to obtain from clients. The consent is important because certain guidelines have to be followed by the counselor during the sessions. When a client becomes involuntary this puts the counselor in a comprising position. The counselor becomes comprised because the incorporation of the client places limits on the direction of the sessions in the group. It is important for the new members to understand the consequences of breaking ground rules of the group. To solve this informed consent issues, counselor is responsible to stress on the importance of treating other group members with respect and avoiding quarrels. It is also important for the group counselor to state the need for confidentiality of by group members.

  5. In my opinion, the common ethical issues arise are involuntary client and confidentiality. Some clients may come to a group counseling session in a state of frustration and tension because they have to be there by force. Some clients may already know about what group therapy is and feel unwilling to open up because of shame, fear of judgment, ridicule, bias, rejection from group members. It will make it difficult for clients to share their stories in the session and make a session not effective. In addition, the lack of confidentiality in a group can also scare clients. This is where the group leader needs to establish from the start that confidentiality is very important to the group. The more other people are willing to open and share, the more likely the fear client will relax and start sharing and joining the session. A group leader also should have a clear plan for every session so, what the client expects in the session can be achieved well.

  6. The common ethical issues in group counseling is the confidential issue. As we know the confidentiality is the right of group members to reveal personal thoughts, feelings and information to the leader and other members of the group and expect that information to not be disclosed to others outside the group. How to solve the confidentiality issues? Well, in my opinion, the consent form and the confidentiality should be done before the sessions started. Importantly, the group leader should deal with importance and reality of confidentiality during the pre-group screening process. The screening part is the most important in the group counseling. In effort to prevent breaks confidentiality, leader need to reaffirm periodically to the group members about the importance of not discussing with others what occurs in the group (Corel et, al.., 2011). Thats why, the leader must acknowledge that he or she guarantee confidentiality and that there may be certain cases in which ethical and legal.

  7. Common ethical issue in group counseling is confidentiality. This is because the possibility for members to know each other personally due to being from the same community and it would lead group members to discuss personal information learned while in a group session with anyone outside of the group. This will make group members lack of trust towards each other. To solve the the issue counselor can discuss the limits of confidentiality with the group members and also before the session start, counselor need to inform confidentiality in group counseling.

  8. Common ethical issue in group counselling is freedom to leave group. When the leader explain to the group members that they can voluntarily leave from the group but with a proper way, the normal situation that would happen is the member will leave the group while the session is on going or they would not continue to come to the next session without any explanation. When a member of the group leave the group with out give any notice, it can give a bad impact to other member and they will start to leave as they like too. To solve this issue, the counselor needs to explain firmly during the first session about the step that they must follow if they want to leave the group. They can consult with the counselor about the reason why they want to leave the group and the counselor will give his decision whether they should leave or stay with the group.
