  Careers are determined by an interaction between our personality and the environment. John Holland's Theory of Career Choice maintains that in choosing a career, people prefer jobs where they can be around others who are like them. They search for environments that will let them use their skills and abilities, and express their attitudes and values, while taking on enjoyable problems and roles. Behavior is determined by an interaction between personality and environment. Holland’s theory is centered on the notion that most people fit into one of six personality types (RIASEC).

    In John Holland Typology Theory, careers are determined by an interaction between our personality and work environment.People who choose to work in an environment similar to their personality type are more likely to be successful and satisfied. John Holland said, whether human agree or not, actually people have at least one of six personality types of RIASEC.

    There are six basic concepts of John Holland Theory called as RIASEC. R mean realistic person that makes physical demand or use machines tools tend to work as repair electronic equipment.Second, I mean investigative person like to search solution through math and scientific interest and competences tend to work as mathematician.Third, A stand for artistic person, their personality trait like free, open and encouraging creativity tend to work as musician. Fourth, S mean social person,encourages people to be flexible,understanding human value personality tend to work as teacher or counsellor.Fifth, enterprising person likely to dealing with persuade and manage others to attain organizational or personal power tend to work as politician or sales work. Lastly, C mean conventional,conventional person mostly work in office environment, keep records or file papers tend to work as bookkeeping.

    Meanwhile, there are requirements for using Holland,s Theory that are valid (accurate) measures of Holland's personality types and through making list of careers and majors that are accurately assigned to the correct client's personality types. The counsellor required to measure their client with five steps. Steps one by using tha career inventories. Step two counselor must understand and gather information about job's interest throught making list. Step three guide the client to understand their job by classification system DOT or O'net, it help client reach more suitable career.Step four both of them need to discuss and explore whether are suitable for client. The last step, counsellor can relate client traits, need and occupational requirement for client's decision making.

    To conclude, although there is an issue like the prevalence of female to score in three personality types(artistic, social, and conventinal) or other issues. But,this John Holland typology Theory are most popular theory it beenused in nation wide due to no multi-cultural issues found.

John Holland theory is a good theory for those who want to know what career they should choose because using this theory we get to know about our abilities, personalities and skills in themselves.. Some people maybe still did not know what career are suitable for them and by using this theory, I think they can get the career path based on their skills. There are 6 personalities and we have one of the personalities. Sometimes we did not realize that we have that kind of abilities and when using this theory, we can know what our strength in choosing the career.

    Selepas mempelajari teori Holland ini, saya dapat mengulang kembali pembelajaran yang sudah kami belajar pada sem yang lalu. pada pemahaman saya teori ini dapat membantu seseorang untuk membuat pemilihan kerjaya berdasarkan persoonaliti yang dimiliki olehnya. Ini berdasarakan kepada enam jenis persoanliti yang umum seperti RIASEC. Orang 'realistic'suka bekerja dengan benda seperti mesin manakala orang 'investigative' selalunya menggunakan intelek dan idea untuk menyelesaikan sesuatu masalah. Orang 'artistic' lebih menggunakan kreativiti seperti seni, muzik dan penulisan dalam kehidupan mereka dan orang 'sosial' kebanyakannya lebih suka berinteraksi dengan orang lain seperti kaunselor. Bukan itu sahaja, orang 'enterprising' akan lebih suka kepada tugasan seperti mengurus sesuatu organisasi dan orang'conventional' lebih suka kepada memberi arahan kepada seseorang. Seseorang itu tertarik kepada sesuatu pekerjaan disebabkan personaliti dan beberapa faktor lain yang terkandung dalam latar belakang pekerjaan itu.

  5. Teori Holland dibentuk berasaskan andaian bahawa minat vokasional adalah satu daripada aspek personaliti dan deskripsi tentang minat individu juga menggambarkan personaliti seseorang. Holland telah mengketegorikan individu kepada salah satu daripada enam kategori personaliti. Enam personaliti tersebut ialah:Realistik, Investigatif, Artistik, Sosial , Enterprising dan Conventional yng dikenali dengan akronim RIASEC.

RIASEC is shortform for realistic, investigative, artistic, social, enterprisinh and conventional. Melalui pembelajaran John Holland Theory hari ini, saya dapati personality types yang terdapat dalam diri saya adalah berkemungkinan besar Artistic dan Social. Ini kerana, jika diberi peluang, saya ingin memilih kerjaya saya sebagai seorang pelakon dan penulis skrip kerana ramai kawan-kawan saya mengatakan bahawa saya mempunyai bakat dalam laonan dan menulis skrip. Manakala Social pula kerana cita-cita saya adalah menjadi seorang pensyarah kaunseling. Sekian.

  12. What I learned in John Holland's Theory, the teory has six personality types (RIASEC) that are realistic, investigative, artistic, social, enterprising and conventional. In six personality types I choose to be social because I am interested in becoming a counselor as I am currently pursuing a counseling program at a USIM. I'm interested in being a counselor because counselor must have a strong desire to help others. One of the most common reasons people decide to enter the field of counseling is because they have a strong desire to help others and to assist people with the challenges of daily living. Besides, counselor must be a good listener. I find that others often seem to feel comfortable talk with me. So, I tend to be a good listener to my friends.

  13. In this theory, I learnt that personalities are divided into 6 parts (Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising, and Conventional). These personalities play a part in choosing a career suitable for an individual. Having choosing a career suited for them, would result in the individual being satisfied in their career.
    This theory makes it easier for us to identify what career suits us best based on our personality.

From this theory I learn that Holland theory emphasize on how individuals and environments interact with each other through the development of six personality types or known as RIASEC which is Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising, and Conventional. For example, social personality type who like to work with “people” and who seem to satisfy their needs in teaching or helping situations. People who choose to work in an environment similar to their personality type are more likely to be successful and satisfied.

People search for environments where they can use their skills and abilities and also express their values and attitudes.   30. Alhamdulilah Dr, thank you so much for your sharing. Actually, many knowledge I got from this sharing including RIASEC. I know my personality and behavior was prefer dominant in Social, actually I like to social with other people. But, the assesment of John holland Theory is limited, sometimes not suitable to all people because my friend have experience and got the result not 100% with their personality and behaviour. But, actually this assesment is suitable for the people who still confuse what to want to be in career especially student.

Teori Holland ini menekankan bahawa pemilihan kerjaya itu adalah bedasarkan kepada personaliti dan persekitaran mereka dimana mereka suka untuk berada dalam pekerjaan yang terdapat individu lain yang sama personaliti dengan mereka.   38. Alhamdulillah, i learn new knowledge about john holland's theory. The RIASEC model can become the guidance to choose a career based on individual skills and abilities. RIASEC including six personality types which are realistic, investigate, artistic, social, enterprising and conventional. Each personality types defines different environment and in practice for the counselor to understand the client personality.
